Who am I?

Hi! My name is Victor, I am from Brazil and I am 34 years old. I’ve been passionate about games and technology since I was little. At that time, games and electronics were considered a waste of time and not a career possibility as they are today. So, I used the technology just for fun.

Years have passed and I’m passionate about everything on the innovation and games field. But, as almost all my family members are engineers, I followed them in the same path and choose for my bachelor in Mechanical Engineering.

In college I had contact with some programming subjects and I identified a lot. I thought about changing the area to Computer Science, which was an area that was closer to what I liked so much, but I didn’t have the courage to do it.

College finished, what’s next? Bills to pay of course, lol. All jokes aside, I launched myself into job hunting. Today, I have nearly 10 years of experience in the textile, metallurgical and automobile industries and one thing they all have in common is the high volume of data and information. I’ve always worked with spreadsheets, data coming from everywhere, to generate reports or make decisions.

That’s how I discovered Data Science, something that apparently fit perfectly with everything I had already done and with my desire to work with programming / technology.

I started studying on my own, studying statistics, Python, books and tutorials and in the middle of that study I had an opportunity to apply for a six month Bootcamp.

In the interview to enter Bootcamp, the teacher said: “We hope you will study 8 to 14 hours a week outside of classes”. I thought it was an exaggeration…. Then I discovered a valuable lesson: A course that is proposed in 6 months will give you all the content to become a Jr Data Scientist…. needs you to study A LOT.

And that’s what I did. Today, October 6, 2021, with my course completed, I’m sure I still have a lot to learn.
