Tokyo recommendations

Last updated: 2018–06–11

My obligatory Google Maps that contain a lot of places that I’ve been or want to go:

Many of the places have further descriptions which may or may not be useful; click on the pins to see them.

There’s also Ichiran (一蘭) shops basically everywhere; you’ll start to notice the red-and-green signs. I think it’s nice to go once for the novelty of the individual booths and the completely customizable ramen including the richness of the broth and how well you want your noodles cooked, but the overall quality is probably middle-of-the-road at best (for Japan). But many of them are open 24 hours, so I guess they’ve got that going for them.

This is — perhaps surprisingly — the food category I’ve sampled least, mostly because it’s ¥¥¥¥¥ for excellent sushi. Since my time in Japan is usually short, why would we waste our time with not-excellent sushi?

Yes, these suggestions are fairly uninspired and appear in every guide to Tokyo. Usually I’m already sloshed from drinking at an izakaya and/or egregiously full from dinner and the requisite post-dinner ramen/konbini run so I haven’t really been to many cocktail bars in Tokyo.
