Geoart 1080

Where are u from? Are u living in a big city? Maybe you have visited some cool places with your friends?

Geoart aims to turn those places into art, something which you can put up on a wall, give as a gift for your friend, or use as a design element on a website. Art that tells you a story, a story of your own.

The 1080 project combines different map elements and makes a competitive view of human inspiration and computer-generated art.

Let’s take a random example — Venice. In case you like the whole area (u visited it once and got some unique experience), then you can generate an image on a large scale:

Venice — radius 1500

However, if you are more into some object or area, you can change the coordinates and radius into different ranges. You can see this 👇 image also from the image above 👆

Venice — San Michele — radius 100

About the solution

Storing those quality images needs either IPFS solution or a generative art solution, where art is rendered in the browser. It would be awesome if we figure out a way to generate an art script based on the map vectors.

So how we did it? We used a local server to integrate with OpenStreetMaps and generate those images by predefined themes or by system-generated themes (more about that 👇)

Those generated images are then stored on IPFS, together with metadata.

All those images are in SVG format, which enables you to scale the image to any size. It can cover the whole wall of an apartment building or just be a small icon/logo on the website, without any data loss.

How about the first set of 1080 images?

It was clear that human inspiration can design themes, which will look good on map layers. So we played with different ideas + color pallets and designed 80 custom images. (Venice example 👆)

The thing is, that we didn’t want to limit the collection only with human inspiration and developed an algorithm that combines different patterns and colors with map elements, without any limitations. Also, we gave a list of 4.5 city coordinates where the program can randomly choose with. Here’s one example and there are 999 more of them (1000 in computer-generated)

Traits and rarity

The whole 1080 project is divided into two main groups, the custom images, and generated ones. Here's a list of them all:

What are the next steps?

The main goal of the project is to improve the collection, so it would eventually have art that looks great and will be usable over time, whenever you need it. But how to achieve that?

We’d like to give this power to the community, with different functionalities, like burning existing tokens and replacing them with generated ones or artist images. This can be also developed in a more advanced way and enable users to choose their coordinates, together with radius.
