Does this end today or tomorrow?

Just yesterday I was sitting in a group of friends and all I realised was one friend showing his new phone to the other, the other two talking about the latest cars, one was upset because he couldn’t find the latest $200 shoe in the market but all I could think of was, is this the life we should live?

We spend almost 50 hours in and around work every single week, we come home and spend time with family, with ourselves, but we always have one thought lingering around our mind, get to sleep and get ready for tomorrow or it’s why am I depressed even if I have everything in life?

It’s just the way it is, it’s just the way we’ve been told to grow up. We’ve been taught by society to work like robots, to earn like mad, to make the most of this life, but for what? To buy grand homes, to buy new cars, to get our kids the latest gadgets? If that is what gives our life meaning, have you ever stopped and wondered if it’s right or not? Nope, you haven’t, I haven’t — because we never get the time for that, also because we’ve been disabled to think about it.

For me, life has a larger meaning than we try to find. It doesn’t lie in materialism, it lies in ethics and morals. It ticks me off when people say, “Hey! Live for yourself and move on. No one else cares about what you do for them or think. Be selfish!”. To which my reply always is, “If God had planned for us to live selfishly, all 7 billion of us would each have a planet for ourselves.”

Most of us fight to have the best day and night, but what most of us forget about is why we’re here? Why have we been given 70 years to spend on this planet? Who sent us here? What are we supposed to do? And of course the most important question for me, what’s next for us? Is there an Afterlife, if yes (which I believe), are we ready for it?

I’m not ready, and I’m sure neither are you, so let’s join hands and from tomorrow think about what we do of our 24 hours everyday. Are we improving the World in any way? Do we support the poor? Are we growing our kids the right way, are we teaching them about life? Ever picked a wounded up or ever celebrated with humility? Think. I want us to think. Think about your identity, your goals. Think about why you’re here, and who sent you here.
